Our Cabinet Door Design

I've had several questions about our cabinet design:

  1. What color are they?

  2. Where did we get them?

  3. What is the door style name?

  4. How can my builder replicate the design?

I'll tackle each one of these in order.

What color are they?

The island is Taupe Tone, SW7633, and the wall cabinets are Greek Villa, SW7551. The shelves and hood border are Walnut wood with just a clear coat.

Taupe tone is the most true taupe color that Sherwin Williams offers. It's not too yellow or orange. It doesn't have a purple or green undertone. It's extremely neutral, pairs well with cool and warm colors, and just feels like a soft blanket draped across the surface.

Greek Villa is not a bright white but it's also not cream. We looked at many off whites and thought they were just a little bit too yellow. Greek Villa is so subtlety off white you wouldn't be able to tell unless it's next to a true white. We didn't want a bright white, because it can felt stark, sterile, uninviting. The slight off white makes it feel more soft and natural.

Where did we get them?

We designed and ordered them through Residential Designs by Brad Roe in Martinsville, IN. They came highly recommended by our builder, M&R Custom Homes.

They use amish cabinet makers and do the design work in house. There were some door styles in the office to choose from but they also have the ability to mock up and create nearly any design.

Their in house designer was very easy to work with, and was integral in taking our vision and independently working out the logistics to make it happen.

What is the door style name?

It doesn't have a name... they are truly one of a kind.

We knew that we wanted a spin on the shaker cabinet, a pop out in the center, no curves or grooves, and straight angles/edges. I was inspired by this photo on Pinterest from Alice Lane Interior Design.

We had the cabinet designer mock up a similar design with a few adjustments. We didn't end up liking the 90 degree angles on the unpainted samples, but here they are some of the variations for reference:

So, we made a few tweaks: lowering the center height and adding 60ish degree angles to the border and center.

How can my builder replicate the design?

I've included photos for reference at multiple angles. The photos are of the island because it's easier to see the detail on the taupe color, as opposed to the white.

Essentially, the design is, working from outside edge, inward:

  • Flush mount doors

  • Square door edges (like shaker)

  • 60ish degree angle off border toward center

  • 60ish degree angle to raised center

  • Raised center at half height of border

No curves. No grooves.
